Five Foodie Faves: August

The journalist in me likes the idea of reoccurring columns every so often that are the same idea. Like, the Must Love Food articles, I’m starting a ‘Five Foodie Faves’- my top five favorite things related to food from that month. I’ll countdown my top picks here!

5. The New Food Network Star: Jeff

He’s funny, cute and can make a good sandwich- what can you deny? I admit that I did not follow the entire series, but started with the top six or so. I would tune my TV to ‘The Sandwich King’ on Sunday, but we opted out of cable at the new house, but I’m sure I can get my Food Network fix at Alex’s house. Gotta have my Cupcake Wars and my daily Ina Garten fix!

4. Dada

The name comes from an art period in the early 19th century characterized by whimsical style and artist who questioned, “What is art, anyway?”. In fact, the restaurant, located in Delray Beach, is quite the work of art itself. It’s funky and casual and the food is wonderful- an upscale twist on classic American favorites like meatloaf and a seven-cheese grilled cheese.  Click Here to Learn More

3. Clif Mojo Bars

They’re nutty and sweet and crunchy and I am obsessed. They may be a semi-pricier $1.00 per bar, but I kind of want to say they are worth the price. You can even have them ordered off of Amazon for a bit cheaper. They come in a big box of 24 and cut you a little deal, but not great. You can read all about my love affair with their Peanut Butter Pretzel in this blog post.

2. Quinoa

I’m obsessed with this superfood- it’s kind of like couscous but a grain? It can go in a soup or in a tossed salad with cubed vegetables and a vinaigrette dressing. The only downside to it is that it is $6 per 10 oz box, but it does last if you are sparing with it. It made about four batches of my Roasted Tomato Quinoa Soup (Which is so so good with a grilled swiss cheese sandwich)

1. S’Mores

Graham crackers are my super fave. I like their texture, their taste- they may be boring by themselves to most people, but I do adore them. If a batch of warm chocolate chips were at my disposal, so long Honey-maid, but day-old cookies probably wouldn’t stand much of a chance. Pair this with chocolate and marshmallow? Damn. S’mores have sort of been a recent trend in the food world and here are a few of my favorite takes:

How Sweet it Is‘ Homemade Smashing S’mores

Buns in the Oven‘s S’mores French Toast
