Pass the Panini!

Paninis can be as diverse as the people that construct them. Tonight, my housemates and I celebrated Labor day by slaving over these delicious hot-press sandwiches made with various ingredients.

Paninis can call for some snobbery, though. They take some high-brow ingredients and some TLC. Expensive cheese and specialty mushrooms make for the tastiest sandwiches so it’s smart to get a few melted-cheese fans together and each contribute an ingredient. My housemate, Ariane, knows how to make bread (in fact, there is a sourdough starter on our windowsill right now eeek!) and when we can have fresh and tasty bread to hold the panini together, I don’t know how I am not going to gain weight forever!

Some Panini ingredient ideas:

  • Pesto
  • Cheese- Mozzarella, swiss, brie, muenster (The list goes on!)
  • Tomatoes (Roasted or fresh)
  • Fresh Basil
  • Spinach
  • Chicken Breast Slices
  • Portobello mushrooms
  • Sun-dried-tomato Pesto

I went for some tomatoes and pesto, chicken, swiss cheese and mushrooms. Oh goodness, was I in a good-food happy mood!

Isabella opted for mushrooms and chicken and a crazy amount of pesto- can’t get between her and that basil!

Ariane, with the most refined taste buds, went for a roasted tomato, portobello mushroom and brie open-faced sandwich. The oven got a little hot, though, but I wouldn’t consider it burned- just over-loved 😉
