Collegiate Creative Thanksgiving: How to Throw a Fakesgiving

Thanksgiving is for family, but while away at school your friends are your family. That’s why it’s a great idea to have your own Thanksgiving with friends a week before the actual Turkey Day! I gathered up my friends last Thursday night for a really wonderful dinner and asked them all to bring one traditional dish. Here are some tips for your own “Fakesgiving” as we called it 🙂

Tressin’ the Tom. Don’t stress out about the Turkey. I acted as if it was my final for the Collegiate Creative semester, but it’s not that bad. As the host of your Fakesgiving, handle the Tom yourself- carving and keeping an eye on it will be much easier in your own oven. My Herb Butter Roasted Turkey recipe with TONS of tips will be up on Thursday so keep a lookout for that!

Table Tricks. I had about 14 people over which is a ridiculous endeavor, but if you can shove

a few card tables together and have everyone bring a chair, you can give everyone a better sense of community and Thanksgiving when it’s one big table instead of a few people eating at the coffee table, a few on the counter, a few at the table… Thankgiving is all about eating and having fun together, not on the floor 🙂

A Little Love. It might seem silly and your friends might think you are crazy, but making place cards and assembling a few tea lights for centerpieces really adds a homey touch to this away-from-home dinner.

Clean Up. It’s going to be crazy. Use nice paper plates. I was absurd and used all of my dishes and it was a terrible, terrible mistake. Especially since I had spent all day cooking, dishes were not number one on my list of desires after the meal. Stick to paper plates, it’s not as classy but nobody will really care all that much.

Have a Happy Turkey Day everyone! Check back all week for a new post every day this week!
